Article ContentIn a recent collaborative effort, physicians with UC San Diego Health and scientists at the Salk Institute reported a form of intermittent fasting, called time-restricted eating, improved the health of study participants who had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome.

Specifically, the researchers looked to see how time-restricted eating would affect the health of firefighters with San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The new findings, published in Cell Metabolism on October 4, 2022, determined that time-restricted eating within a 10-hour eating window was not only feasible, but also helped the firefighters significantly decrease their VLDL, or “bad” cholesterol, improve their m…

Lifetime-Friendly, Component-Based, Retained-Mode UI Powered by Async RustThis blog post is intended for readers with some experiences in async Rust.

Async UI is a proof-of-concept Rust UI library with backends for the web (HTML/JS) and GTK 4.

Async Rust solves this problem: in async functions, lifetimes can span across await points, and await points may pause for however long we want.

Take Advantage of the Async EcosystemAsync UI is "just async Rust", so it is very easy to use together with other Rust libraries.

This is the same executor used by async-std, so anything that works on async-std should be compatible with Async UI.

How criminals are using jammers, deauthers to disrupt WiFi security cameras How criminals are using jammers, deauthers to disrupt WiFi security cameras

(WXYZ) — A new warning is being issued for anyone who uses wireless security cameras like "Ring" to protect their home.

Chris Burns, the owner of Techie Gurus, said security cameras that use WiFi to record are more about convenience than security.

A deauther will overwhelm a WiFi system, forcing the WiFi camera to stop recording if you stand close enough.

They're also highly illegal, so jammers are more difficult to find, but a powerful jammer can prevent an entire street from recording on WiFI security cameras with the switch of a button.

A spokesperson from Ring sent a statement saying, "Like any wifi-enabled device, WiFi signal interference may affect Ring device performance.

In 2021, we began our transition to Tesla Vision by removing radar from Model 3 and Model Y, followed by Model S and Model X in 2022.

Today, we are taking the next step in Tesla Vision by removing ultrasonic sensors (USS) from Model 3 and Model Y.

Does the transition to Tesla Vision without ultrasonic sensors affect Model 3 and Model Y safety ratings for vehicles delivered on or after October 2022?

Vehicles equipped with Tesla Vision retain the same crash safety ratings as vehicles equipped with vision + radar + USS.

†Autosteer maintains its 85 mph top speed, which is the same as Tesla Vision vehicles equipped with USS.

The news is a huge win for the Syracuse area and New York, which competed with at least four other states including Texas to land the Micron plant.

Supply-chain interruptions during the Covid-19 pandemic exposed what Schumer and other members of Congress viewed as a national security risk with semiconductor chips.

Intel broke ground Sept. 10 for its new chip plant outside of Columbus, Ohio.

How to move a running process into a tmux session
How to move a running process into a tmux session

It’s rare, but sometimes it still happens that I forget to open a tmux or screen session when working with something that is supposed to be quickly done.

However, it also happens that “quickly done” turns into “tedious and ugly” and now the process lives longer than it was supposed to and I become afraid of ssh disconnects or something.

So an obvious solution is killing the process and running it in a newly created tmux session — but what if the process ran for a while and I don’t want to kill it because I either lose progress or end up in a mess?

Instead of killing and re-running a process, it would be much smoother to just move it into a tmux session.

This involves changing …

The show is set 10,000 years before the events of Dune and is based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert (son of original Dune series writer and Sci-Fi great Frank Herbert) and Kevin J. Anderson (noted Star Wars Legends canon writer).

Sisterhood of Dune does not have a release date as of yet.

Delusion’s LA DominationI’ve been going to Delusion productions since hearing rave reviews for 2012's The Blood Rite (which was produced by Neil Patrick Harris).

The Blood Rite was unlike anything I’d ever experienced; Delusion shows are theater productions with interactive elements that put you inside a horror movie, or at least that’s what it feels like.

Every year since has just leveled up the show as the Delusion fanbase has grown, which is definitely what Braver had in mind.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a landmark case concerning the Clean Water Act on Monday.

In 2006, the Supreme Court issued a split 4-1-4 ruling in Rapanos v. United States that challenged the EPA’s jurisdiction over isolated wetlands.

Justice Antonin Scalia authored an opinion restricting the Clean Water Act to permanently flowing water bodies with continuous surface connection.

The agency then announced last year that it would further revise its definition in yet another new proposed rule, scheduled to be issued after the Supreme Court opinion is released.

Worth noting: The couple at the center of the ongoing Supreme Court case, Mike and Chantell Sackett, are not exactly the scr…

Thirty-nine years ago, astronaut Sally Ride became the first U.S. woman to launch into orbit, inspiring a generation of women who continue to push through barriers in the field.

Ride’s contribution to the exploration of space is now being commemorated by a cargo spacecraft that will bear her name.

Northrop Grumman has named an upcoming Cygnus spacecraft the S.S. Sally Ride in honor of the astronaut ’s historic trip to space in 1983.

That historic launch marked the first trip to space for a U.S. woman (Ride was preceded by two Soviet cosmonauts who launched to space in 1963 and 1982).

Once its mission is complete, the S.S. Sally Ride will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere.

The Biden Administration on Tuesday revealed a first-of-its-kind “AI bill of rights” calling on developers and policymakers to address longstanding issues of algorithmic bias and discrimination.

The bill of rights, which focuses primarily on bias from AI systems deployed in the private sector, largely sidesteps growing concerns over the federal government’s own use of AI surveillance tools.

The AI bill of rights as proposed Tuesday rests on five key protections.

The racialized component of algorithmic bias and discrimination, the policymakers said, ties the AI bill of rights to the Biden Administration’s broader equity agenda.

Why Elon Musk Wouldn't Face Twitter in Court Why Elon Musk Wouldn't Face Twitter in Court

After months spent trying to escape the deal he signed to acquire Twitter, Elon Musk now says he intends to complete the purchase after all.

In a letter to Twitter, filed with the SEC today, Musk said he would honor his deal to buy the company for the originally agreed price of $54.20 per share.

In an August legal filing, Musk accused Twitter of fraud, claiming that there were more bots on the platform than the company had disclosed.

Yet by accusing Twitter of fraud set Musk himself a high legal bar to clear.

“He knows that his best claim is fraud, but they've gotten the evidence from Twitter, and there's nothing that looks like fraud here,” Miller says.

Formerly called Project CHIP (Connected Home over IP), the open source interoperability standard known as Matter is finally here.

Device manufacturers need to comply with the Matter standard to ensure their devices are compatible with smart home and voice services such as Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant, and others.

For example, you'll be able to buy a Matter-supported smart bulb and set it up with Apple Homekit, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa—without having to worry about compatibility.

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (or CSA, formerly the Zigbee Alliance) maintains the Matter standard.

Elon Musk has changed his mind again: he does want to buy Twitter, actually.

So, Musk’s brilliant solution to this conundrum was to buy all of Twitter in a deal valued at $44 billion.

Twitter (understandably) didn’t take too kindly to that and struck back at Musk with a lawsuit demanding that he close the deal.

So, why doesn’t Musk want to cancel his deal anymore?

It also doesn’t help that Musk’s case against Twitter essentially relies on publicizing bad things about the very company he could end up acquiring.

According to a report by Karen Weise of The New York Times, Amazon is freezing corporate hiring for its retail business for the remainder of 2022 in an effort to hedge its bets against a rough economic forecast.

The hiring freeze includes all corporate and technology positions for Amazon’s retail and operations, which account for the bulk of Amazon sales.

The announcement comes from an internal memo sent to Amazon recruiters, who were instructed to tell potential candidates that Amazon was not in a hiring freeze and that any open positions would be closed soon.

A report from The New York Times says that Meta sent creators on the platform an email letting them know that the service would be going away.

Since then, there have been signs that the platform wasn’t particularly popular.

The new iOS is more exciting than the new iPhone this year The new iOS is more exciting than the new iPhone this year

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been carrying one of the new iPhone 14 models with me as my daily driver.

The reaction when I talk about iOS 16 is very different.

iOS 16 lets you easily copy and paste a photo cutout of your pet and text it to your spouse.

The more nuanced version is that the regular iPhone 14 is boring — the 14 Pro and Pro Max are interesting but more because they’re a kind of blueprint for the future of the iPhone.

After all, pretty much every iPhone owner gets a new iOS version in the fall, while far fewer will get a new iPhone.

When will the iPhone be forced to use USB-C? When will the iPhone be forced to use USB-C?

Today, the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of new legislation that would eventually require all mobile phones sold in the EU to use a USB-C port for wired charging.

That would make 2025’s iPhone 17 (if Apple continues with its current naming convention) the first model forced to use USB-C for wired charging.

That means Apple could limit its USB-C iPhones to EU markets or even exit the region entirely if it wants the iPhone to remain Lightning-exclusive.

If Apple really wanted to avoid adding a Type-C port to its phones, it could eliminate the wired charging port entirely.

The wording of the legislation means Apple can’t try to get around them by offering USB-C charging via…

It means sharing all financial information about its workers with its workers to ensure there are no discrepancies between workers doing the same jobs.

If done well, pay transparency results in a more positive, collaborative and engaged workforce because there’s no resentment between workers.

Pay transparency requires more than just a town hall meeting and a salary memo being circulated, which is only now becoming obvious to companies.

In short, this is about how you can make pay transparency work for you.

This is the latest of several privacy updates Apple's announced for its AirTags item trackers since they were released last year.

It also notes that Apple built AirTags so that law enforcement can request identifying information about the owner.

"We're committed to listening to feedback and innovating to make improvements that continue to guard against unwanted tracking."

Apple also touted AirTags security, saying each device uses frequently changing identifying code and encrypted communication to deter hacking and unintended tracking.

Apple also said it plans to adjust the "tone sequence" of AirTags noises when warning someone about unwanted tracking.

Concept imagines a dedicated Apple Sports app for iOS and watchOS
Concept imagines a dedicated Apple Sports app for iOS and watchOS Concept imagines a dedicated Apple Sports app for iOS and watchOS

This year, the company made a deal with Major League Baseball to broadcast games every Friday on Apple TV+.

As rumors suggest that this is just the beginning, designer Parker Ortolani has made a concept imagining a dedicated Apple Sports app for iOS and watchOS.

Ortolani describes the idea as an “ultimate sports hub.”The concept of the app is heavily inspired by the Apple TV and Apple News apps.

The idea is the same as having Apple TV+ and third-party channels together within the Apple TV app.

The concept shows how Apple could use Apple News to let users follow news about their favorite sports, leagues, and players with curated content right from Apple Sports app.

A report from Economic Daily News last week revealed that TSMC told Apple that it would increase the price of the company’s chip production for 2023, but Apple reportedly rejected the new prices.

But today’s news suggests that Apple will pay the new price set by TSMC.

Apple is one of TSMC’s major customers, the company supplies chips for Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

TSMC is reportedly working on Apple’s new A17 Bionic chip, which will be the first to be built with the 3-nanometer process.

The first new ad placement coming to Instagram is the Explore feed.

In the past, Instagram has shown ads in the Explore feed when you visit the Explore tab, tap on a post, then scroll downwards.

Historically, Instagram had only placed ads on Explore within the Explore feed — that is, when a person taps on a post and scrolls.
